Plain Scones

  • Makes 8-12

  • Preparation time: 15 min
  • Cooking time: 10 min


  • Ingredients

    8 oz (225g) self-raising flour
    Good pinch of salt
    1-2 oz (25-50g) butter or margarine
    1 oz (25g) sugar
    Milk to mix

  • Method

  • Sieve the flour into a bowl.
  • Rub in the butter then add the sugar and salt.
  • Mix to a soft rolling consistency with the milk.
  • Roll out to half to three quarters inch in thickness and cut into required shapes.
  • Place onto a greased tray.
  • Bake in a hot oven gas mark 7-8 for approx 10 minutes.
  • To test if cooked press firmly at the sides, scones are cooked when firm to touch.
