Apple Chutney

  • Ingredients

  • 4 lb (1.8kg) apples
  • 1 lb (450g) sultanas
  • 1 pint (600ml) vinegar
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 lb (450g) onions
  • 1 lb (450g) soft brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • Method

  • Peel and core the apples, chop them roughly.
  • Peel and chop the onions and garlic and add to the apples.
  • Boil in the vinegar until the apples and onions are tender.
  • Add the sugar, ginger, salt and pepper.
  • Bring gently to the boil and boil until the chutney is thick and brown.
  • Pot while hot and be sure to fill the pots right to the tops.
